Remodel
Our team’s primary work is often renovating and remodeling outdated homes. There are elements to this process that are hard to predict as you start peeling layers back. It is our ethical and professional duty to disclose anything harmful or worrisome once they’re exposed. It would certainly be a waste of resources to install new materials atop compromised construction. Our team will always advise you to fix any issues while you have the opportunity to do so. These issues more often than not are inexpensive with the rare occurrence of a serious issue. Whether you are looking to do something small or large, we can implement the right plan to accommodate you while your home is under its improvement. Rest assured Old Hickory Designs will have your best interest in mind every step of the way.
Accent walls are a quick and easy way to bring some character into your home. We source our materials locally and hand pick everything to ensure we are getting the best pieces for our project. We use a variety of common materials ranging from Cherry, Cedar, Oak, Maple, Walnut, Birch, Apple, Elm, Fir, Locust, Pine, Spruce etc… As well as more exotic hardwoods like Red Balau, Ipe, Meranti, and Mahogany among others. Certain looks require a certain product and we are here to help you find what it is you’re looking for. We have also sourced materials that are not local species. Doug Fir is a prime example of a strong material that we can find from the Pacific Northwest that can really bring a unique feel into any project.
Pictured left is a remodel we finished from the base of a late 1800’s farmhouse. The home was in pretty rough shape and the renovation was vast. Our goal is always to salvage as much of the old as possible. If we cannot save it and or use it in its original form, we will reintroduce it into the finished product in a variety of unique ways. These old beams (pictured on the left) were a part of original mortise and tenon frame. We wanted to increase the height of the walls upstairs so we took them out and reused them in two places. One was an archway transition from kitchen to main living area, and the others were used to hold up the stair stringers. There is something very enchanting about the history of old timbers and the authentic feel they exude.
